CQ Drive: What is your motivation?

The first step towards leading with cultural intelligence is addressing the motivational issues for ourselves. CQ drive measures the extent to which you are energised and persistent in your approach to culturally diverse situations.

CQ drive include three main areas: intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and self-efficacy.

In determining your CQ drive, the following question can be asked:

Do you have the confidence and drive to work through the challenges and conflicts that inevitably accompany cross-cultural situations?

To improve your CQ drive:

1. Be honest with yourself.

2. Examine your confidence level.

1. Face your biases and act on them.

2. Connect with existing interests in another culture.

3. Scare yourself by imagining what would happen if you are not culturally savvy.

4. Visualise success.

5. Reward yourself.

6. Maintain control by reducing reliance on hosts.

7. Eat and socialise.

8. Travel.
